This current collective is based on water.

The ocean has always been my healer.

The rhythm of her waves.

The power she possesses and the gift she brings.

I like to think of shells as fragments of my ancestors’ bones, returning home to the very shores they were taken from. The resilient nature of a shell, the original nomad - tumbling through the waves and overcoming the tied is identical to my people’s story.

A shell for me, can also be a metaphor for black women, a delicately formed organic beauty - however yet it is also a protective armour for whatever takes home inside of it. We rarely loose shape, or crumble under light force and even when we break in two, we stay true to our purpose.

I wanted to create these earrings in celebration of the year of return…welcome home.
